A lot of people ask me: Why?
Why do you bother?
Why do you it?
Why do you care?
The answer is pretty simple… Have you ever wanted to do something but you perhaps lack the confidence, or think people will talk negatively? Well, that’s why I do it. I do it because everyone deserves to have confidence in themselves. Everyone deserves to have someone believe in them, even if it is only one person to start with.
How many ideas do you have that you disregard because you think, no, too much money, or I don’t know enough, or people won’t go for it.
My response to that is, you don’t know for certain that people won’t go for it until you try!
Everyone deserves to have someone in their corner. It doesn’t matter what they’re doing, it’s always nice to have someone there as a safety cushion - even if it is only to vent at.
You really don’t know about how something will work until you try it. Look at Gareth Southgate, so many people doubted him as we went into the 2024Euros, and we made the final! He tried something, and he had a small minority believe in him which gave him the power to do it.
There are times where I don’t have the belief in someone’s idea, but, I talk to them about it, and I support them as best I can, and sometimes, I am stood corrected - other times, we review and say, what happened, what can we do differently.
Business is just that. It’s an ongoing review of the previous day/month/year, and looking at what goes well, what could go better, and what should be swept into the WPB. (And if you don’t know what a WPB is, then go speak to your grandparents)!
The hospitality arm of the business here within the Kingston Group, are able to do just that. We listen before anything else, and we support and believe that a product or service can be produced, and we work closely with the client to ensure that it doesn’t need to be swept into the WPB.
In life, sometimes opportunities come at you when you’re least expecting them. I remember one phonecall that changed the course of another business. It came while sat in the kitchen, having a brew during lunchtime. The bit that made me believe I could do it, was talking, and someone saying to me, do it! I’ll forever be grateful to that person for her support and belief in me to pull that off, it couldn’t have been easy, it brought gruelling hours, grumpiness and stress; but she believed.
Back in 2017, she was the person who believed, who supported and she was the safety cushion that was frequently used, but she picked me back up, told me to get on with it and that’s what we did.
Again, in 2020, when life was darkest, there was someone there, who said you’ve got this! That chap was someone I’d known my entire life - he was the rock, the safe, the calm and more often than not, the one with all the answers! A lot of his answers, methods and reasons have been cemented in my brain, and if I’m ever asked when I can do something, it will always be Tuesday!
That’s why, I’ll rarely say no but I will probably say what if you do it this way?
Give those thoughts a whirl, drag them from your brain to paper, then talk about them, what’s stopping you? Make a list, and if you’re not sure where to start, give us a ring.
Sometimes what you want will take a lot out of you, you’ve just got to be sure you want it that much!
