On the 3rd May 2025, The Bridge Inn, Horton nr Devizes will host the first of what we hope will become an annual Bands by the Bridge event, which this year is in aid of Dorothy House Hospice and the Wiltshire & Bath Air Ambulance.

 

Opening the gates at 1230, and having live performances from 2pm, until our headlining act at 9pm, we are looking forward to a fabulous day, all in aid of two fantastic charities, who serve Wiltshire and further afield tremendously well.

 

Not only does Dorothy House provide palliative care for those with terminal illnesses, but they are also there to offer advice and support to those close to the patients. The endless work that the staff who work both at the hospice and out in the community are nothing short of faultless, and I personally have experienced their warmth and comfort at the worst possible moments. Their support doesn’t stop when the heart does either, they stay both in person and in touch, until a time that both can say thank you and goodbye. We will forever be grateful for the help, support and care that they provided Granny with in 2015, and this is another way of us saying thank you. Donations from events and other fundraisers, help provide specialist beds and equipment, not to mention the staff. It keeps their vehicles on the road, so they can collect your Christmas trees, and transfer goods between their shops.

The Air Ambulance also have had the misfortune of attending our director’s aid, twice… However, knowing some recently qualified paramedics who have their dreams set on joining the HEMS team and knowing what invaluable skills and equipment they carry onboard the current Bell 429, is a relieving feeling when you’re told that HEMS are coming too. Luckily, he wasn’t too badly injured when he received the care of the Heli-med, but others are not too lucky. His then partner had also had them to her aid, and so too has a good friend, among plenty other accidents and incidents that they attend. We see their yellow and green helicopters and vehicles speeding to all sorts, and you know if they’re on their way, then it’s going to be pretty serious, but it’s with events such as these that keep them in the air, and on the road, so if that time comes, the ladies and gentlemen in the orange jumpsuits can get to you or your loved ones extremely quickly, remember, seconds count as well!
